Career Counselling

Problem Statement:

Career Counselling is the most important thing in any student’s life. It helps him/her to select a path of life how he wants to pursue his life and earn money and have a good standard of life.In Pakistan there is almost no career counselling. Students don’t know about their fields of interest.Students need to explore today what they really want to do in future. They need to clarify whether they should follow the opinion of their father or mother, follow their friends or should they follow their own dream career.The turmoil of making a career decision results students landing into wrong career, failure, unemployment/underemployment and depression.

People who facing problems:

Students of 9th and 10th grades as students in 9th/10th standard are invariably anxious for clarity on their future as to which Career to choose? Most students undertake aptitude assessments and on the basis of their abilities or interests select a particular education stream and assume that their career choices have been finalized. Unfortunately, career hunt begins only after completion of education.

Secondly, children in the age group of 14–18 years undergo major changes, physically and emotionally, due to adolescence. Most children behave erratically during this transformation period causing anxiety in parents. Motivation for studies is limited as children feel that unnecessary education is being thrust upon them without any clarity on their future. This affects their performance in exams leading to further friction between parents and children, resulting in unwanted negative atmosphere at home. This is precisely why career choices must be made early in life

Students of 9th and 10th grades.

How shall we be conducting sessions:

It’s an online idea of providing the services so we will be using our social media handles like YouTube and Facebook live

Purpose of using social media?

By using social media we will promote our project. We will share these pages with the public so that a huge number of students will come to know about our session.As corona pandemic still not over so physical sessions are not feasible.

Solution:

There is a need of career counselling of the students which are about enter higher studies. Our challenge is to conduct a virtual session so that we can guide the students to the best of ability so that they can choose their careers freely and more confidently.

Timeline:

● It will take a week for exploring the new universities and analyzing the admission structure and faculty. This will be beneficial for the detailed analysis of the admission procedure will provide a good compare and contrast between the universities and their fields.

● In the second week we will work on creating our YouTube channel and Facebook page and will try to complete this creation and try it and practice it. In parallel to this we will start the collection of data according to our requirement.

● In the third week we move forward towards social media activities from this platform we will initiate a social media campaign. So up to this date we will be able to start our sessions and start recording our videos for YouTube.

● In the fourth week we will go to manage multiple things as running the monetization of our channel and Facebook page and after the successful conduction of our session then finally we are going to write a blog and complete documentation.

Actionable items:

● Our main objective is to conduct successful career counselling session on YouTube and Facebook

● We will examine the students on which who requires how much guidance, then we will constantly updating our policy on how to conduct sessions next time

● Our target is to conduct of session of at least 20 students at the fellowship and get feedback

Task Division:

The distributions of the tasks of our project are as follow:

● Anvar and Hyder are handling the software and CS universities and also the creation of Facebook page and YouTube channel.

● Fatima and Momna are handling the food technologies universities and careers in it

● Hamza and Jamal will handle the engineering and medical universities and admission procedures in it.

Learning of all team members:

1- Fatima: I learned that working in a team is effective as it has enhanced my abilities in my assigned task and it also helped me to learn from my mistakes and to respect other’s opinion.

2- Anvar: Through this project I was able to explore and learned many things myself and also learned how to work in a team and also learned how to tackle trying circumstances.

3- Momna: The main takeaway from this project is that how can we achieve objective quickly and swiftly ; also I learned about our project flew by when it was divided it into further small activities.

4- Hamza: I learned is experience gained in distributing and managing tasks among the team members that it’s really a benediction working in a team within such a short time.Also I learned how to follow the deadline and how to lead my circle in a short time.

5- Jamal:I was quite thrilled to participate in this activity and I learned many things of other fields and learned how to address the mass attendance.

6- Hyder: I enjoyed the working in the team and applied what I have been learning in the sessions and I am quite happy that I have learned many new skills and it was quite a journey.

Future Learning:

Career counselling is very crucial as it helps the students and their parents to choose a crucial and stick to it. It has proven to be of great importance and help to the students and parents who have gone through career counseling for taking a career decision. The counselors help the students to achieve a fulfilling and successful career by guiding them to take up those career options in which they are interested in and which requires those skills in which they are outstanding so that they can give in their best performance in future.
